@ Rochester Park

went to Comex on Saturday, got a new laptop =)

dinner @ North Border, Rochester Park.
http://www.northborder.com.sg/

ATAS LEH. haha!
price was affordable, similar to La Nonna.
food was AWESOME!!
the smoked duck breast cream sauce spaghetti, i must say, the best cream based spaghetti i have ever ate. SO NICE :)

not too creamy, a little sweet..
SO NICE!!
i cannot forget the taste..haha!

this was good too: arizona and bean stew
a bit mexican spice tasting. LOVES

finally, the reason why we were there: the ass kickin' chicken wings!

*in picture: "Spontaneous Combustion" Spicy sauce.
As described on its website..

"If you like to kick it up a level - try our hot sauce (probably the hottest in Singapore and the whole world) - Spontaneous Combustion."

degree of spiciness:
1) Candyass Hot
2) Jackass Hot
3) Burn Yo Ass Hot

my brother came with his colleagues on friday night and they ordered the third degree one and were 'burnt' by it. apparently it was SO hot his indian friend couldn't tahan too.
yx and me just had to try it after listening to this tale.

but after that we decided that we didn't want to waste money, even the wait staff said that the maximum number of Burn Yo Ass Hot chicken wings one can take is only two. so it was jackass hot for us.

well, not too bad for me! will try the third degree one another day.
the wait staff told my brother there used to be an item called the "Suicide Pasta" on the menu. but it was taken away because it was just too hot ^^;

they have Chili Ice cream for dessert too.
only for those adventurous enough...

anyway definitely coming back again, the food VERY NICE!!

ambience 100%
service 100%
food 100%

Walked from Buona Vista MRT. not too far =)

“吃,没有省的”- my brother.
i like this thinking!
foodie family =]

P.S. Kiki! we had GREAT food without you =p
But you are enjoying Europe de air without us too ><

too much good food this week! next week on diet :D

Manpuku Japanese Gourmet Town

30/04/09
Tampines 1 Mall - crowded as usual

Decided to have dinner at Manpuku Japanese Gourmet Town.
Manpuku is a new Japanese food hall concept that offers authentic Japanese cuisine in a Japanese gourmet street setting.

Uniqlo camisole^^

and Shio Ramen from Aoya.
Hmm... not that nice. Not worth trying..

Kiki and Okonomiyaki.
Hmm.. Japan's okonomiyaki taste 10000x better.
Maybe it's personal preference since the stalls here are supposed to be Japan's best.

This was good.
Shishamo is always good^^

Fruit Tart that cost $7.90 (heard it's $8++ now)
DANG.
So expensive.. but it was Fabulous!!
Worth trying...

Blueberry oh-so-good

I LOVE THIS TEA
more than the cakes.

but that's because I don't really like cakes.
...... the tea was realllyy good.

we can see kiki prefers sweets to anything.

the fruits are nice! combi of grapefruit and orange-lovely :)

and I cut my fringe! lol

the 13th World Gourmet Summit 2009

20 April 2009

Venue: Grand Copthorne Singapore
Time: 0930

Event: The 13th World Gourmet Summit (WGS)

The World Gourmet Summit (WGS) is an international gastronomic extravaganza jointly organised by Peter Knipp Holdings Pte Ltd (PKH) and the Singapore Tourism Board (STB).

An annual epicurean festival that showcases the intricate craftsmanship of prestigious chefs, it is also an exposition of the internationally acclaimed wineries. Encompassing a series of dazzling events such as vintner dinners, celebrity dinners and masterclasses, the World Gourmet Summit is a gastronomic spectacular specially crafted for discerning individuals who appreciate fine cuisine, great wines and unique dining experiences.

Agenda: Attend Press Conference.
Darryl David as emcee. He's good!

Well, wouldn't say it was fun (it shouldn't be fun anyway right?? Press Conferences) but it was a great experience overall, the event itself, and of course the suave angmoh chefs. Cuisine is becoming a show business.

Thanks to Lesley that I got to attend this event ^^

And thanks to Danny (Lim)!

Yummy food at reception.

Goat Cheese. Hmm acquired taste.
I prefer the Siew Mai with ikura. YUM~

I helped my friend translate a piece of email interview for my friend who was working for this event (I'm not professional, I just tried my best!!). No pay... maybe dinner :)

I don't even know where my interview translations are going to appear... LOL

Speaking about Michelin and the stars...
Why is a Tyre company giving stars (Oh btw they are not stars, Mr Peter Knipp says they are rosettes, and Darryl David said they look more like asterisks.. PK: Yeah, oversized asterisks LOL) to restaurants? They are businesses of different natures, aren't they?

From http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Michelin_Guide

André Michelin published the first edition of a guide to France to help drivers maintain their cars, find decent lodging, and eat well while touring. It included addresses of gasoline distributors, garages, tire stockists, and information on fuel prices, changing tires and repairing the cars of the day.

The guide was distributed free from 1900 until 1920. The Michelin brothers introduced the charge after a pile of guides was found propping up a workbench in a garage. A free book would not be taken seriously. The guide introduced the star in 1926 to note good cooking; two and three stars were added in the early 1930s. The cover of the guide was originally blue, but since 1931 has been red.

As motoring became more widespread, the star system was developed and guides to other countries introduced. Today a series of twelve guides list more than 45,000 hotels and restaurants across Europe, and the guide to France has sold 30 million copies since it was introduced. There are now Red Guides covering France, Austria, Netherlands, Belgium/Luxembourg, Italy, Germany, Spain/Portugal, Switzerland, and the UK/Ireland. The guide covering France is still by far the most thorough. There is also a Red Guide covering the "Main Cities of Europe". The first guides for cities outside of Europe were published in 2005 for New York City and 2006 for San Francisco.

Guides for Tokyo, Los Angeles and Las Vegas have been released since November 2007. In guides released in November 2008, Tokyo was awarded a total of 227 stars – 9 restaurants were given three stars, 36 two stars, and 128 one star. This is more than three times New York City's total, and more than twice as many as Paris's total. [1](It should be noted, however, that Tokyo is home to 160,000 restaurants, versus New York's 25,000 and Paris's 13,000.[2])

WGS 2009 is from 19April~2May.
Check out the chefs and the restaurants if you are interested ;)

1 serving:
1 tomato
1 egg
pinch of salt and pepper

Dice the tomatoes..

Stir-fry and add the egg..scramble..

Add a little salt and pepper..

Very easy but delicious dish.. yum :)
It will taste even better if you eat it with a 'dental braces rubber band'.. (yes, Kiki did it...)

Interesting facts about eggs in different cultures
Interesting facts about tomatoes - a veggie, not a fruit

Pirikara Konnyaku

Ingredients: Dashi Tsuyu, Konnyaku, Togarashi

I think I put too much dashi tsuyu.
But it was nice :)

I think a lot of people don't know what Konnyaku is made of.
It's actually made of a root similar to yam, and the components are water and dietary fibre only.
So it is a good diet food :)

Sometimes you see them in Oden (Japanese winter stew). Konnyaku itself has no taste, and is eaten more for its texture. It is not "agar agar" though it looks like it.

There was a case whereby the sales of a Konnyaku jelly brand MannanLife were suspended when kids actually choked on the chewy jelly. I love that brand but now it's gone~ maybe they will be back once they make the size 'kids-and-elderly-proof'.

I'm sure you guys have seen this jelly before!

Home Alone

Well my sister and I aren't exactly home alone since Grandma and Miss Maid are around.
But Mum and Dad are on their 'honeymoon' holiday at Cameron Highlands (it's actually a gathering for my dad's primary school friends) so we are kind of left on our own..

Woke up late (for once!) today and decided to cook something for dinner..
Got the inspiration for Japanese curry... Yum♪

Off to the supa-!

Getting the vegetables - onions, carrots, potatos...
and meat..

Reminds me of a comment my friend made..
Why don't they sell individual potatos and onions T.T
I don't need that many.........................

But I like grocery shopping ^^;
The feeling of grabbing everything I like into the basket....;;

Been wanting to try Soyjoy.. lol.

Came back,
Researched on some stuff for Taiwan trip in June.. and played with my baby niece who dropped by with my cousins..

Cooking time!

The aprons!

Sisters in Crime.....

oblique cuts

Lightly saute the vegetables and meat.

Add water to full boil..
Add in the curry blocks ^^

Cook until it thickens

Around 2omins later...

Completed :)

Even I can make it, everyone can ^^
I think it tastes really good.. haha...
I love Japanese curry!

Watched The Terminal as our Friday Night movie..
Interesting...

Hope Okaasan and Otousan are having a great time!!!
They deserve the break....

House is in a mess....
