Winter Wonderland 01.01.13 - Nami Island [Day 6]

1 Jan 2013: Day 6 - Gapyeong
Nami Island

It's New Year's Day! 새해 복 많이 받으세요~~ (May you receive many good fortune)

Morning surprise! Mr Cho cooked up a traditional New Year's Day food - Tteokguk for us!!
For first-timers like me..
"Tteokguk (soup with sliced rice cakes) is a traditional Korean food that is customarily eaten for the New Year. According to Korean age reckoning, the Korean New Year is similar to a birthday for Koreans, and eating tteokguk is part of the birthday celebration. Once you finish eating your tteokguk, you are one year older. On January 1, People prepare some food and eat. They entertain a visitor who visit to bow for New Years to food. In this bout, they prepare tteokguk certainly. "- Wikipedia

Still feeling the Christmas mood...

anyway ..... today's itinerary was Nami Island - yes Winter Sonata!

We got to Cheongyangni (metro) to catch a train to Nami Island. not difficult... the difficult part was going to the ferry terminal from Gapyeong train station! you can either take a bus (which comes hourly) to the ferry terminal or take a cab - both long queues.

the queue....
